St. John’s Steppingstones Preschool At a Glance
“The best gift we can give to any child is to make that child feel WANTED, LOVED, and CARED FOR because that child is the greatest gift of God.” - Mother Teresa
Mission Statement: St. John’s Steppingstones is a child-centered preschool that provides enrichment and school readiness in a program that reflects the moral and spiritual values of the enrolled families. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and all faiths are warmly welcomed.
Philosophy: Our program is designed to be child-centered, to encourage a balance of spontaneous activity, and structured activity, to provide enrichment rather than acceleration, and to emphasize life skills, acceptance of differences, school readiness, and the values of Catholic families. We believe that play is the work of young children and that toys are the tools children use to develop their many skills and abilities.
Our environment is designed to stimulate play, intellectual development, risk taking, social interaction, physical development, language proficiency, spatial perspective, and respect for Catholic values

School Year: Steppingstones begins classes in September and continues through May, following the St. John’s School calendar.
Program Information: All sessions have a basic class schedule or routine, but allow for necessary flexibility. Each class time includes reading, music and large motor play along with hands-on learning in math, literacy, science, technology and art. In addition, the students have a scheduled weekly gym time with the school gym instructor, weekly music lessons by a Musikgarten trained music specialist, and all students check out books weekly either from the preschool library or St. John’s school library. Technology is incorporated daily through the use of an interactive white board.
Teachers: Steppingstones Preschool is blessed with a competent and dedicated staff. The Lead Teachers are all college graduates with MN teaching certificates. In addition, all of our staff members are First Aid and CPR certified, and attend conferences, workshops, and classes throughout the year to maintain the states required number of in-service hours.
Field Trips: The preschoolers participate in various field trips throughout the year. Some examples include: Apple Orchard, Stages Theater, Kinder Konzert, Como Zoo, and McColl Pond Environmental Learning Center. In addition, we host several in-house field trips (Mad Science, The Nutcracker Ballet) and go on walking field trips (Culvers, Hollywood Park).
